What is Jenga Africa

‘Jenga’ is a Swahili word meaning ‘to build or develop’.

It is an ideal word that reflects the mission of like minded individuals who came together to form Stichting Jenga Africa.

Stichting Jenga Africa is an independent charity foundation registered in the Netherlands with the aim of improving the lives of children and communities.

We work directly with the Government and Registered Non-Governmental Organizations with similar objectives.

Our mission

Better Health and Education for Children and their Communities.

Our vision

We see a world where children are given opportunities in education, health and nutrition to change their destiny.

Our strength

We work directly with the beneficiaries ensuring direct impact. 95% of all donations go directly to the programs.

Where we work

Government support and Need are the two key factors that influence where we focus our efforts. We pursue our vision and mission by working directly together with the locals. In Kenya, we currently in the following areas:

Mathare Slum, Nairobi

Mathare Valley is a part of Mathare slum in Nairobi Kenya. The degree of poverty here is unimaginable with people living in 6ft x 8ft shanties. There are many households with children who are forced to care for younger siblings after both parents have died of AIDS. There are an estimated 70.000 children in the Mathare Valley, with only 3-4 Government schools to educate them. Many children do not attend school. Without an education the children in the Mathare Valley often turn to a future of crime, prostitution, drug abuse and disease.

Amboseli Area

Esiteti Primary School is located outside Amboseli National Park overlooking Mt. Kilimanjaro has 600 students. The area is inhabited by the Maasai Tribe of Kenya. They are faced with various challenges such as Female Genital Mutilation|(FGM), Child Brides (Early Marriage) Low school attendance, Starvation due to climate change, Low women empowerment as the main issues.Esiteti Primary School is located outside Amboseli National Park overlooking Mt. Our story begun in 2012

Our story began in 2012 when a group of family and friends visited Millennium school in Mathare Slum and were moved by the inhumane conditions where the children were struggling to get an education. This prompted the urge to support the children who were desperately in need to change their destinies through Education. We joined forces with the Millenium school In Mathare. We visited Esiteti School in 2013 and established that there was a need for girls to be supported in staying in school. We did this through the kind support of families and friends.

In 2015, we registered our foundation in the Netherlands and began directly working with the school and communities.
