Meet Phides, the POWER WOMAN at Esiteti

Meet Phides Taiyiai. She is the Headteacher for Esiteti Primary school and has been there for the past 8 years! Our goal was to build a house within the school to replace the tin where she lives.

Here we have more about Phides:

Age :  50 Years

Tribe : Maasai

Profession : Teacher

Status :  Married

Hobbies : Teaching, singing, reading and traveling.

What Drives you : I feel motivated when I see the pupils performing well. I stay positive towards my work, despite the distance and environment. Helping girls be empowerment and successful.

I am Grateful for :  I lived in the Tin/Metal hut which is always too hot or too cold depending on the weather  for a long time. Now that I have a real house, I can be comfortable staying here with the children in school. The nearest town is very far .

Student Challenges : They walk mostly 7-9 kilometers to the school daily and we are grateful for the lunch, especially the young children. Poverty and Cultural practices that are negative like early marriage and female circumcision.

Success:

  • Students come to school every day because of the common lunch by Jenga Africa.
  • Improved performance by the students because of stability
  • 4 students sponsored by Jenga Africa to various high schools.
  • Higher number of girls enrolled in the school because of the boarding facility

My Vision:

To produce the best pupils with a good educational basis that will boost their futures and help them come back and give back to their community.
