The ongoing pandemic has been an incredible challenge for slum dwellers virtually in every way. Low-income students who face hard hurdles even in normal times are having harder times now. With the increased financial and social challenges faced by families last year, those barriers have only intensified. It is in this light that Jenga Africa! and its partners in Kenya are aiming to create a safer haven for the children in Mathare Slum. We now have a new location where there is more room for the students. We aim to increase intake of students this year and keep to the Covid-19 guidelines as stated by the government. We also have a social worker in the school who will cater for the psychological needs of the children. We recently received two new water tanks as a donation from Sanergy and we encourage the students to wash their hands and keep them sanitized. Parents provide mask from home and the students are required to keep them on.
